Our Story

Back in 2016, business coach Tracy wanted to provide a space in her home town of York for fellow businesswomen to make genuine connections. So she set up the Women Mean Business network. Kerry came along to one of the meetings, became a member, won one of the network’s awards and then joined forces with Tracy. There’s the power of making connections, right there!

Like all good things, the network grew. In 2020 it evolved into MPWR, a global platform of businesswomen who can connect anytime, anywhere to empower themselves and each other.

Our Team

All our fabulous network members contribute to the MPWR community. We are so grateful for the expertise and support they provide, so really we have a team of hundreds! But here’s an introduction to MPWR’s two main hosts – Tracy the brunette one and Kerry the blonde one:

Tracy Burleigh

Founder & CEO

“I always dreamt of having my own business. I told my schools career advisor I wanted an ice-cream cart in York Museum Gardens.

Starting a family at a young age, meant I had to fit work around my commitments. I did everything from packaging to retail. I then worked my way up in an insurance firm from the call centre to project managing product development and training. When I realised paperwork and internal politics wasn’t for me, I switched gears. Cue training in events and then running an events-planning business. Plus a shop selling everything from wedding dresses to confetti.

I sold the business and took a career break to concentrate on my family, then three boys, husband, and a cat! But I continued to help friends and family with business advice. This led to setting up as a business coach, and then ultimately MPWR. Now I’m finally doing what I was always meant to (and also have a dog, two grandkids and am employed part time!) At MPWR we aren’t ‘fluffy’ and there’s certainly no pink branding. Instead we offer networking, support and training to grow the businesses, careers and lives WE want.”

Kerry Perks

Kerry Perks

COO

“I’ve always had the desire to earn. From the age of 14 I had Saturday jobs as a waitress, hairdresser and cleaner in my hometown of Hull. Before university, I took a year out to work in the purchasing department of a mail order company. Being paid to travel to Germany, Italy and even Hong Kong on business was a dream come true. I realised I’d rather build a career than study.

I spent three years in London as a marketing manager for an IT consultancy. I then returned to Yorkshire and worked for more than 15 years in marketing, senior sales and leadership roles. It was a shock to be made redundant whilst on maternity leave, but it was the catalyst for setting up Perks Marketing.

I now lead a team while juggling being a wife and mum and step mum to four children. I joined Tracy’s networking group and loved being a member. We finally met up in person the group’s expo in York and we just ‘clicked’. I’m so excited about expanding MPWR and helping even more businesswomen across the world!”
